Day 3 – Conquering Heights and Heading Home
At 0700, the final day of our Snowdonia adventure began as we awoke to the familiar routine—up with the sun, washing off the weariness. By 0730, we were fueling up with breakfast, ready for one last day of challenge and excitement. Though we had already conquered the hills, today promised a final test of courage and skill: climbing and abseiling. The excitement was still there, but a touch of bittersweetness lingered in the air, knowing this would be our last day of adventure.
By 0830, we had our bags packed and loaded onto the bus, ready to move out. While there was some buzz about the day ahead, there was also a sense of reflection as we prepared for our final test in the wild. By 0930, the final check of our accommodation was completed, and we left for the climbing and abseiling site at 1000, ready to face the towering cliffs that demanded both focus and teamwork.
The rugged terrain of Snowdonia provided the perfect backdrop for this final trial. As we reached the cliffs, harnesses were strapped on, ropes checked, and nerves steeled. One by one, cadets took on the rock face, climbing with determination, and then abseiling down with a mixture of exhilaration and fear. Each descent brought cheers from the group, the thrill of conquering the challenge evident in every face.
Congratulations to CDT Morris for being the first to climb during the abseiling session on Day 3 of the Snowdonia trip! Your determination and courage in leading the group made a lasting impression and set a fantastic example for your fellow cadets. Keep up the great work!
At 1400, it was time to pack up and head home. The journey back to 863 Squadron HQ was quieter, the energy of the weekend beginning to catch up with everyone. But behind the tiredness was a deep sense of pride.
By 2100ish, we rolled into Thurston, greeted by the familiar surroundings of our HQ. As we disembarked and collected our gear, the adventure finally came to a close. At 2130, the team dispersed, each cadet carrying home the memories of an unforgettable weekend in Snowdonia—an adventure that tested not only their physical limits but their courage and teamwork as well.
A huge thank you to Mr. and Mrs. CI Carn-Pryor, CI Millard, and OC Miles Green for their tireless efforts in organising, supervising, feeding, and guiding our cadets every step of the way. Your dedication made this trip truly unforgettable!
